Grew up in Houston, TX, attending private schools (mostly Episcopalian) and Rice University, majoring (academically) in computer and digital engineering and minoring in analog engineering - socially, "majoring" in RPGs and fancon management and "minoring" in theatre tech. Married a mentally abusive creep who had been a college RPG buddy; worked as a computer engineer and intelligence analyst in the SF Bay area for 3 years; moved to Portland, OR, in 1984; met a wonderful guy at a square dance; dumped the creep (he was dating another college buddy already, so it was a win win situation all 'round); married the wonderful guy; had kids; worked variously as an engineer, business analyst, general manager, project manager, and business owner; moved to Vancouver, WA; worked as a travelling IT PM, CM, KM, and ITIL consultant; moved to Richmond, VA, in 2003; got involved with Community Theatre doing set construction and props; was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer; went through treatment at MCV to complete remission; got my PMP certificate; was re-diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer in 2005 and told I had 2 months to live; changed treatment providers to CTCA Midwestern Regional Hospital in Zion, IL, where I still go once every 3 or 4 weeks; currently working as a travelling PM/BA for Keane, Inc., studying for ITIL certification, positioning for Program Management Professional certification whenever PMI makes it available, writing a couple of books, admiring the remodel jobs my hubby and sons are doing on our home, and doing a "feasibility study" on buying an empty-nest home somewhere between Racine, WI and Chicago, IL, in the next 3 to 5 years.

Earliest memory of reading: lying next to my bedridden Grandma, angry at her insistance I read _Bubbles the Whale_ aloud to her instead of the other way 'round. I was maybe 3 yo at the time. Within a year I was reading the Houston Post's funny pages and Leon Hale column and learning arithmetic from the grocery ads (again courtesy of Grandma, who had been a primary school owner/teacher in her younger days). Other favorite books from those early years were _Toby and the Lost Zoo_ (on which the recent movie _Madagascar_ was based) and Rimskittle.

My favorite books for many years were P.L.Travers's _Mary Poppins_ series. I still have the copies we bought in England. Mama used to trace the illustrations so I could color 'em. Daddy bought some of the "colored fairy books" and made 'em magically appear - I long suspected he hid 'em in the top of his closet, but never could catch him at it - and I still have a couple of those originals, too. At 10 yo or so I discovered science fiction in the guise of Heinlein's _Have Spacesuit Will Travel_ in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church library. Off and on during my teenage years and early 20s I was into Eastern, Ancient, and German philosophers. Currently, most of my reading is work related (leadership and project management), fluff (cozies and sf/f action adventure), and cancer related.

I'm married to a loving, loveable, and marvelously talented guy (3D modeling guru, business owner, trained chef, perfectionist handyman, homeschooling Dad, and attentive caregiver); Mom of two wonderful boys (22 yo business owner in his own right and project manager, besides getting straight As towards an Associate of Business Administration degree; and 13 yo Gifted Student now rising 8th grade) and a Papillon and a PBGV who are the smartest, most personable, and all around best dogs in the world; travelling IT project manager and business process consultant, with sometimes multiple clients fighting over my time; and successful breast cancer fighter - in Dec 2005 my then-doctor predicted I'd be dead in 2 months; as of Jul 2007 I'm well into remission with a fighting chance at *complete* remission.

I'm also working on two books: a how-to for Hallowe'en parties and haunted house setups to be done in one's own living room/porch/deck; and a collection of essays on the experiences and attitudes of dealing with breast cancer.

We're Lutheran Missouri Synod Xtians with family backgrounds of Jewish, Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, and Baptist. During college, I was into Pagan religions but the Druids I met were one and all pretentious scumboys and the Eastern paradigms ultimately just didn't work for me as religion (although I still follow much of their philosophy - which meshes very well with the Lutheran paradigm). Christmas for us is a little bit of decoration, partying, and gift exchange and a lot of Church; ditto Easter. Dec 30th is our youngest's birthday so we have a big kids' party around then. Valentine's Day is just before my birthday so it's a very family centric celebration. August is another big birthday month - my Uncle, eldest son, and hubby. Hallowe'en is our biggest party season - I try to take a full week's vacation and we always do a "major blowout" level of haunted house setup for the trick-or-treaters (and parents).

We live in a middle-to-upper income bedroom community near Richmond, VA. Our cul-de-sac is actually a little circle with a park/playground in the middle. The area is deliberately kept heavily wooded with many hiking trails. There's an excellent pool complex and lousy country-club and golf course in the community, and an excellent golf course and sports center nearby. Demographically, the area is becoming much more diverse - thank goodness!
