Sobre mi biblioteca
Women with Biracial Children is a virtual group composed of members of several social and support groups I've been involved with in the past, present and will be in the future. Anyone who has an interest, parent, grandparent, teacher, librarian, or otherwise in the identity development of black, brown, biracial children, biological or adopted, feel free to browse here. These books are not owned by one person but rather can be found in libraries, book stores, and our homes. Various tags will be used to show where they might be found when possible. Pleaes review a book and I'll put your review right her on library thing!
Sobre mí
I am Nell Fleming, a library student, working on a project studying the demographics of children's picture book covers at the University of Illinois. I am also the mother of an almost 8 year old biracial girl who thinks that it is so cool that Santa Claus is Black (he left her a picture of himself) because it's so cool that a Magical Person looks like her and her dad. She also thinks it is so awesome that there are people that look like her in History and thinks that Black History is the best! She especially enjoyed Molly Bannaky the story of a white woman who had four biracial daughters with her husband who was an African Slave in the 1600's. She was amazed that someone in history was biracial, female, and free with a white mom and a black dad. I am enjoying this time in her life where as she learns the world is not fair or just, she also learns that she has value at the same time. She knows that Obama is the first biracial/brown skinned/black/African American president and is proud, and at the same time a bitterness that there have never been any women in office. It is ironically, a mixed view of amazing positives and dissappointing negatives.
