Sobre mi biblioteca
I've had several massive collections over the years, two of which were abruptly abandoned. I have a pared down library of about 1500 books stored at my familys' home in Yorktown, Va. most of which are obscure non-fiction. Here in Key West, I've tried to counter my almost supernatural tendency to collect books by heavy utilization of the library. Still, I've recently collected all of Florence Kings' books...a new discovery and all of Thor Hyerdahl. I'm working on John Varley, whose works I dearly love.
Sobre mí
I am a lifelong bibliophile and rather excited to find this site as I spend little time mucking about on the computer. I have read between 3-8 books a week all my life (I'm 41 now). Throughout my 20's I read mostly non-fiction in an attempt to understand what sort of world I found myself living in and who was in charge around here (I had a few complaints/suggestions!!). In fiction, I've read widely in most genres, shying away from commercial "bubblegum for the minds of the masses". I enjoy books with a strong sociological/anthropological bent. Speculative science fiction is a favorite. Travelogues and auto-bios by obscure people. My mother is a YA writer and I've kept up with that genre, as I consider it important.
I've essentially spent my life reading, having only worked sporadically. I grew up overseas in Tripoli, Libya and on the island of Borneo in Indonesia. I can only tolerate living in the Southern states and five years ago I discovered Paradise in the form of Key West, Fl.
