Born and raised in Honolulu, Marjorie Nelson Matthews attended Punahou School, Occidental College in Los Angeles and the University of Hawai‘i, Manoa where she graduated with Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Communication. She has taught speech and communication courses in the University of Hawai‘i and the University of New Hampshire systems as well as speech and nonfiction writing at ‘Iolani School in Honolulu. Her work experience includes writing for U.S. Senator Spark M. Matsunaga, editing for Houghton Mifflin’s software division, and managing the Journals Division for the University Press of New England. Her poetry has been published in Rainbird, Across Borders, Bloodroot Literary Magazine, and the 2012 New Hampshire Writers’ Project’s Poetry in the Windows event. Hawai‘i Calls is her first novel, and she is finishing a second novel with the working title, The Red Wheelbarrow.
