Sobre mi biblioteca

These are the books I physically and currently own (does not include e-books). So many more have passed through my hands, now absent. Twenty-five years ago, I closed off one corner of the basement and built a study. It's the quietest room in the house, and it has a special energy. I go there to hang out, blog, play online, and read. I've built a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf into one wall - a modest library by most standards - but it's full. Stacks of books are appearing on the floor. I prefer it that way. Books should be seen, not packed away in boxes or closets. With respect to books, I cannot call myself a minimalist. . . not when are laying everywhere. This is a preferred visual cliche of course.

Sobre mí

I remain a mildly introverted autodidact with degrees in philosophy, humanities and electronics. But pieces of paper have little importance. In these days - which authors Strauss and Howe have called a historical 'fourth turning' - self-education is not only praise-worthy, it's damned essential. One must constantly pursue a release from expectation and comfortable narrative.

I'm retired from various positions in instrumentation design, engineering, and micro-assembly. I live and explore this current reality humbly and with as little pretense as I can manage. Life has become a well-aged wine, sloshed sideways at odd moments by an unexpected happiness. From day to day, there typically occur long moments of contemplation, a few journal paragraphs penned, some dallying at the piano, reading, moments spent in gaming, gardening and yard work, and meditative practice.

Some of us have been watching for decades as the old world order goes belly up. It will not go according to anyone's narrative. The key, in these times, is to find your innermost sense of integrity and not to assume you can shelter in any group, politic, or personality cult.
