When we moved abroad in 2008, we left behind a TriBeCa loft with an immense wall of bookshelves, the collection of two people who've both worked in book publishing for two decades. We crated up the thousands of books and moved them to our weekend house's attic, where they're sitting, waiting for enough shelves to built somewhere . . .

I'm author of the suspense novel "The Expats" (Crown, March 2012), and a longtime book editor. I'm married and the father of twin schoolboys; we live in New York City and the North Fork of Long Island.
