Why bother with another self-help book? Survivors don't always realize how badly abuse affected them until it reaches their conscious awareness. It gets hidden in suppression to avoid shame, embarrassment, and other painful emotions. Many popular programs about healing from abuse and trauma focus on self-love and gratitude, which is the ultimate goal. However, it isn't necessarily the right starting place for survivors.
