Coggy (a corgi dog) is stolen by some dog thieves. A family is inconsolable and the daughter decides to write a letter to the Queen to ask for her help in finding him. The dog is now living the transition from a safe contented environment to a place of hell in an illegal breeding den where he has to learn how to survive.

He manages to escape and his journey begins as he interacts with many human characters, good and bad who have their own problems. It is a world of brutality and kindness. A rite of passage for him to confront the realities he now needs to face.

There are many, including the pain of having his security chip removed, and a near drowning experience, but is saved by an ex-soldier finding peace in the forest.

An elderly couple feed and care for him, until the villains use a scam to capture him.

He escapes and is looked after by a farming family. This life ends when an aggressive dog warden shows up and he is on the run again falling into the hands of the villains who first stole him.

Finally, father and daughter outwit these men and manage to take Coggy back to the happy life he once knew.
