It's a very different perspective on the and story, and offers a bit of a challenge to the idea of Mr Rochester as a romantic hero. I'm not really a fan of Jane Eyre, apart from the early chapters which fascinated ms a child, and love WSS. I suspect that people who love JE and find it romantic will feel aggrieved by the challenge of WSS.
