MyFathersDragon: I discovered Jules Verne and H. G. Wells in 4th or 5th grade and read all of the ones I found in the public library.

MyFathersDragon: We read the Secret Sharer in English class, but on the other side of it (upside down from each other) was this one, so I read it because it was available. The book also described it as a Joseph Conrad classic. I was determined to read lots of books considered classics when I was in high school.

JalenV: I read it decades ago. That bit about not wanting to admit that Christ was poor rings true because I have a 19th century book on the lives of Saints Joseph, Joachim, and Anne. That book didn't want to talk about Joseph's poverty, but that he was descended from King David.

JalenV: Asked for and got a paperback set as one of my high school graduation presents (1972). I admit it's The Fellowship of the Ring that I have reread most often.

aulsmith : This is the one Lawrence I read, and I agree with sturlington.

sturlington : You really only need to read one Lawrence, I think. I read Lady Chatterley's Lover and had no interest in reading more.
