To date, only twelve women have won the Nobel Prize for literature. This list is for those who should have, but didn't. To qualify, an author should be dead, female, and not have won the literature prize. Please add the "most representative" book by the author you want to nominate; if there's already one of her works here, vote for it.

bluepiano: Perhaps not the most obvious choice of book given that she's often thought of as a nouveau roman writer, but this is my favourite so far.--I can't help thinking that she must have been considered for the prize more than once.
