Books off the Shelf Challenge
If you have books on your shelves that you have been meaning to read, but never quite get to because something new is always catching your eye, this challenge is for you. Set a target for the number of books you want to read in 2010 and track and comment on them here. Any book you already own is eligible, even books you've already read once.
Like other challenges, please start a thread that includes your user name. Post to that thread as you complete books. Please see my thread (lbradf) as an example. (Cute tracker is not required!)
usnmm2 has given us a most excellent quotation for this group:
"Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity... we cherish books even if unread, their mere presence exudes comfort, their ready access, reassurance."
--- A.E. Newton
And, check out this great article that RidgewayGirl linked us to about why we find it so hard to read the books we already own: http://www.abebooks.com/books/difficult-hardest-reads-obscure-staff/remaining-unread.shtml?cm_mmc=nl-_-nl-_-r00-ar1001X-_-01cta
The folks of the 75 Book Challenge have created a challenge to send 750 books to troops overseas. This seems like an absolute natural for our group giving the objective of clearing books off the shelves. Insteading of Bookmooching the books you don't care to keep, how about sending them overseas!
