Biografía breve
After a decade practicing law and another decade raising kids, Heather decided to finally write the novel she’d always talked about writing. She lives in Mill Valley, California, with her husband and two teenaged children. When she’s not writing she’s biking, hiking, neglecting potted plants, and reading books by other people that she wishes she’d written.

I really enjoyed this story with two separate but connected timelines. I thought I would be drawn in by the Northern Minnesota setting, but despite all the (summer!) time I've spent at a Northern Minnesota lake it did not really feel familiar to me. Still, the story was engaging and well-constructed.

I'm always on the lookout for a good historical mystery and The Lost Girls about a little girl that went missing in 1935 sounded just perfect for me. And, it was a very good book where the answer to the mystery was not given straight away. Instead, we get to follow Lucy's memories from the notebook where she has written down what really happened to her little sister 60 years previous. In the present time has Lucy's grandniece Justine moved into Lucy's house after her death and there she tries to build a new life for her and her daughters. But, the past has a tendency to catch up. And, not just her own, but her family's past.

The book's story is interesting and deeply tragic and it kept me guessing right up until the end what really happened to Emily. The Lost Girls is a good title for the book because, in a way, the girls in the family are really lost as Emily's disappearance started a vicious cycle. Not that Lucy, Justine and the rest of the characters get lost in real life like Emily did. More like there is something in them that are lost. Something they are yearning for. They all have personal demons to deal with, even Justine eldest daughter who is not that old yet.

It's a very good book, well-written and thoughtful and sometimes deeply moving. And, so sad.

I want to thank William Morrow for providing me with a free copy through Edelweiss for an honest review!

Loved this one. It was super easy to read and the mystery was great. The beginning was such a good hook. The characters were fantastic - Flawed AF, but still very likeable. I gulped it down in a couple of nights.

I'd recommend this one to any fan of light horror or heavy mystery.

This is my second book by Heather Young. I'm going to read more of her books. She's talented.

This was a good summer book. It's interesting, there are only a few well done characters to track through two eras and there's a great mystery to pull you through.

There are a lot of questions left dangling at the end, and it hints at far more serious issues that are not explored. OTOH, it would be a very different read if it was weighted down with those issues explored. They could have been omitted entirely.
