Scott Yanow has been writing since 1975 about jazz of all eras and styles. He has written for virtually all of the significant jazz magazines, including Downbeat, Jazz Times, Jazziz, Coda, Cadence and the Los Angeles Jazz Scene, and he has also been a major contributor to the All Music Guide to mostrar más Jazz. In addition, he has penned over 750 liner notes. It is estimated that Yanow has reviewed more jazz CDs than anyone in history. The Great Jazz Guitarists is his eleventh book. Beginning with a brief history of jazz in film from 1917 to 1960, readers are introduced to Soundies; Snader Telescriptions; Jazz on Television; Movies 1960 to the Present; Ruth Etting; and The Film Careers of Hoagy Carmichael, Harry Barris, Cliff Edwards, Kay Kyser and Svend Asmussen. But reviews constitute the bulk of the book. Section One reviews videos and DVDs, Section Two reviews Hollywood Movies, Section Three reviews Shorts, Television Specials and More Documentaries, and Section Four reviews Miscellaneous Items of Interest.

Also included: a listing of top-rated films, addresses of film labels, and a bibliography. A few black and white photographs are included throughout the book.

Recommended, especially for jazz aficionados.
