David Wood was probably one of the last of the Colorado mountain and mining haulers running multi-wagon trains pulled by horses, mules or oxen. He even moved large items into areas where everything was packed on mules or burros. He kept moving on when the various narrow gauge lines caught up with the mining locations. The photos are as good as the text.

How does one move a large 5000 ft steel rope? You mount loops of it on the side moving from one mule to the next, get to the end of the string and then loop it on the other side of the mules. How many do you ask? I believe it was around 75 of them that carried the cable over 6 miles to a mine.

He eventually had to leave hauling and became a ranger, cattle and horse dealer. The book is well done with good writing, another tribute to the Caxton Ltd. editors, in my opinion!

It's out of print but the books are around as I have managed to acquire two copies but then that's why I use LT these days. That's a story for another day.
