Evie Carson returns to her family home after an ugly divorce. One night, while sitting in her childhood treehouse, she is horrified to see a mentally-challenged neighbor burying the body of her childhood best friend underneath the tree. The next day, his body is also found. Thus unwinds a series of murders and southern charmed mayhem.....
I could not put this book down! This is one of the best mysteries I have read in a long while. It is full of unexpected twists and turns. There were several times I thought I knew the murderer, but I was wrong!
I love Southern Fiction and I love a good mystery. This one does not disappoint. I love the fact that this author gets to the point and doesn't get bogged down in unnecessary details. Characters are well-rounded and believable. The ending is a real shocker.
I highly recommend this book. It's perfect for a dreary day (or night). Grab a blankie and cozy up. You will not be disappointed.

Roberta "Bertie" Byrd drives a tow-truck out of Thomas Byrd and Sons Garage. Her brothers left town to join the armed forces years ago and have never come back.....neither wanting to drive a tow truck for life.... The residents of the town use Bertie as a taxi & grocery delivery service. She is roped into singing solo for the church choir, but the choir director has bad intentions. Her neighbors and their children are certifiable...her friends are crazy too!

The back cover of the book states: "...is positively the most hysterically funny book I've ever read. Dolores J. Wilson writes a lugh-until-it-hurts book that will have your sides aching as you turn the pages to see what calamity will befall the long-suffering Bertie next......" --www.romancejunkies.com

Well, I must have missed it, because although I found some parts of the book mildly amusing (like the owner of the house she is renting showing up when he's supposed to be in a nursing home or a dead man signing a notice of removal for the tow truck she parks in her driveway), I sure as heck didn't fall over with side splitting laughter.

The book is very simply written, the plot, if any, never was apparent to me....I couldn't find the "romance" in the book either. For me this was another mindless read....but I did finish it.

After divorcing her high-powered attorney husband, Evie Carson moves back to her small-town Georgia home to start a fashion boutique. As she walks the family farm reminiscing about her childhood, she climbs into the tree house her dad built for her. To Evie’s surprise, she sees Jake, a mentally-challenged childhood friend carrying a naked body and a shovel. She looks down in silent horror as he buries the body, which turns out to be her best friend Denise, whom she hasn’t seen in years.

Evie reports the crime, and when Jake is found dead the next day, everyone is stunned and afraid there’s a serial killer on the loose. Now Evie is being stalked by someone who can apparently enter her house at will. Does the killer think she knows too much? And, can she really trust Lyle, the handsome state trooper assigned to protect her?

Great plot that keeps you guessing. More about relationships than graphic violence. Highly recommend.
