Loved it from beginning to end

This was such a beautiful story that had me invested from the first chapter. I'm so glad to have it in my collection. The title is perfect for a story telling how a family is formed. This one gave me feels all the way through.

I like stories where animals bring people together

I loved the idea of this story; building a family and adoption. But I felt like, if the main source of conflict was coming to terms with his family's disapproval of his sexuality, you can't end the book without addressing that in some kind of conversation/confrontation.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

This was a nice story about two guys who haven't had time to find love, but come together because of animals. Tyson works at an animal shelter and Jack is a new adoptive father who is looking for a dog to help his new daughter assimilate to her new surroundings. There is an attraction, but Jack has had trouble with being gay due to past family beliefs. He acknowledges he is gay, but feels as though he shouldn't be able to act on it. Eventually they work through this and get their HEA. I loved how connected to the Shelter Tyson was. It was beautiful to see him with the animals, and I cried when he did thinking about Lucy and the other animals.

I liked that the chapters rotated between characters, so we got to see inside the head of both guys. What I struggled with, though, was there wasn't a lot of dialogue between Tyson and Jack, yet Tyson seemed to know all about how the Jack was. His "intuition" seemed a bit too much. How and why did he come to the conclusions about Jack and his past, about the circumstances regarding the adoption, etc. It seemed like Tyson knew all of this stuff but we didn't see him learn about it, so the situations felt disconnected. After a while, Tyson's "intuition" moments (where he analyzes why Jack is the way he is and what's going on with him) became redundant. I would've liked more time spent with the guys discussing this stuff rather than just hear Tyson's interpretation of it.

I liked Jack's relationship with Mia. Having just adopted her, it wasn't all hearts and butterflies. I liked how it was portrayed realistically with caution. She was adorable playing with Harold, and they were a perfect match. The relationship and having Tyson move in after such a big life change with Mia seemed a bit rushed, but they all got along well. I am hopeful that it would be a successful change for them all.
