4146 Last Man Out Glenn McDole, USMC, Survivor of the Palawan Massacre in World War II, by Bob Wilbanks (read 30 Mar 2006) McDole is a man who dropped out of high school because he could not be on the basketball team and joined the Marines and was sent to the Philippines, where he was in December 1941. He became a prisoner of the Japanese when Corregidor fell in May 1942 and his is a searing account of his time as a POW. The Japanese undertook to massacre all the 300 some prisoners in the camp he was in on Dec 14, 1944, but he thrillingly managed to escape and returned to Iowa and became a highway patrolman. A stirring book, though the account of the evilness of all but one of the Japanese guards seems incredible.… (más)
