This book was published in 1944, before the conclusion of World War II. It tells the story of the flying schools run jointly between civilians and the Army which produced thousands of pilots for the war. It reads a lot like something from Life Magazine. You get little vignettes of events experienced by flight instructors and the cadets. It was interesting to read some of the stories from schools across the country, even if they were a bit shallow. I hadn't realized how much of a gamble this really was for the owners and operators of the schools. For the first couple years of the program, there was no promise of payment by the government and everything had to be put on credit. Only after the US entry into World War II did the government start putting up the funds to support the schools. Do pick this up, if you're interested in the subject.… (más)
