Well that explains a lot. Nothing on this book said that it was a sequel, there are no lists of books published by the author, no series name or number but it's book 2 in a series. It did stand well on it's own and while it develops on relationships that are probably fleshed out in the previous title. Interesting world-building and an interesting read.
