Interesting collection of images of Boston's changed cityscape, including the development of Copley Square, the great fire of 1872 and the comings and goings of the city's places of worship.

Combined with Kevin Lynch's Image of the City this book gives a good introduction to Boston's development which was literally raised out of the water. How small the city was up to the mid 19th century! The author provides a lavishly illustrated journey through time and space. The book is written for a local public intimately familiar with Boston (and its important families) which is sometimes perplexing for an outsider unable to see for himself. Fortunately, Google Earth comes to help. Nevertheless, a survey map highlighting the different stages might have been helpful.… (más)
