This the biography of an amazing woman but it is diminished by being poorly written and edited. In one incident the same sentence is repeated on two separate pages. While the little green boxes that give historical facts about other women who broke down barriers or the high tides of the Bay of Fundy or the history of the Petitcodiac River are interesting, they detract from the purpose of this book- Molly Kool.

Molly learned to sail from her father her took her on his vessel from an early age and taught her how to navigate especially in the treacherous waters of the Bay of Fundy and North Atlantic. Eventually she captained his scow leading to her getting her captain 's papers. Life on the type of boat she captained was harsh and dangerous but she loved it.

REPORTER IN DISGUISE tries to discover the identity of one woman who made it as a reporter in the late nineteenth century: Canada's own Nellie Bly, Vic Steinberg. Overall, the reconstruction of this mysterious persona is effective, but I would have liked the author to take the investigation deeper. There is unevenness in the presentation that limits the accomplishment of the text. Still, I hope the text will encourage students, male and female, to be excited about journalism and its role as a noble profession.
