Stokely Webster

This is an exquisite book chronicling the life and work of American impressionist painter Stokely Webster. The biographical text, largely in an extensive question and answer interview format, provides candid and fascinating details about his childhood, his development as an artist, his European excursions, and the joy of his marriage to famed dancer Iva Kitchell, who was renown for her brilliant parodies of ballet and modern dance. But it is of course Webster's art, 285 color plates and dozens more monochromes, that is the heart of the book: from the first sketches at ten years old to the impressionist paintings of Paris, the French countryside, London, and New York, as well as examples of his still life and portrait work.
