Witty and poignant in equal measure, this memoir about growing up as a "houso" in the Sydney suburbs is a must-read. The conversational, blackly comic style quickly drew me in, as did the fact that I knew the places and schools she was describing. As an educator, it was a useful reminder of how you can never really know what is going on behind closed doors before your students even walk in the classroom.
Alcoholism, neglect, mental health, eating disorders - it's all here and more. Highly recommended.… (más)
