Hmmm..... It is hard to put into words what I think about this book. At first, I was ready to just stop reading it. Asha's self-deprecating personality was really getting to me. I couldn't stand her. She needed professional help, and it was driving me insane. Eventually though, I got through it. Then the emotions are hard to explain. I wanted to smack her. I wanted to shake her. I wanted to yell at her. How could she be so blind to what was in front of her? This is truly an emotional rollercoaster. I don't know that I would want to ride it again, but it will definitely stay with me for a long time!… (más)

This is the first time I have wished for the option of half stars when rating a book. I want to give it a 3.5, and know that technically that should round up to a 4, but in the end I have to go with clicking on the 3. And here is why:

Why it could be a 4:
1. The premise is fantastic. I can totally imagine going to the movies, seeing a trailer for this movie, and thinking, "Wow, I gotta see that!"
2. The love story. These two were meant for each other and every page makes me believe it.
3. The writing does not come off as amateurish and the editing is solid, with only a few typos like "as" instead of "is." Nothing to pull me out of the story.

Why it's a 3:
There is really only one reason I have to knock this down to a 3, but it's sort of one big storm cloud reason, with Plot Holes being the storm cloud with a crap-ton of rain drops spilling out. The major one, for me, being how the hell did they explain her disappearances to Ben's family? Sure, Ben thought up a pretty plausible reason for her disappearances as a child, and one crappy reason early on when they were dating, but what did he tell them later, after they were married A three month absence would have raised questions. The author never told us this. Readers never find out why this was happening. I'm not sure that really bugs me; I can live with that, although it would have been nice if that had been explored. But the thing that had me scowling at my iPad was the solution they finally came up with to help Evie remember Ben right away. It was a solution I had come up with right away. I thought they would never get to it. Yes, I know if they had thought of it sooner the book would have ended, but, geez, it drove me nuts.

I think I will eventually read Ben's story, even though I HATE when writers put out a "new" book which is really just the same story but from a different POV. I feel like with this, Ben's book might actually be more. One of the plot holes I hated was the absence of any explanation of what Ben was doing while she was gone. I think this book would have been better if it had been told from both POVs.… (más)

Esto es una versión "romántica" de Destino Final. ¿Recuerdan? Es esa película donde la muerte persigue a un joven y a sus amigos, y todos tienen un final terrible. Bueno, en resumen esa es la trama de I Love You to Death sólo que sumándole a eso una historia de amor y quitando que en este caso la protagonista no tiene visiones.

La historia comienza cuando Ash acaba de perder a su novio y tras varios días sin ir a trabajar, cuando vuelve, se entera de que contrataron a alguien nuevo: Luke. Quien misteriosamente no deja de verla ni un instante.

Esos capítulos de como va desarrollándose su relación con Luke -de simple amistad a algo más- están intercalados con capítulos en los que Ash nos cuenta como murieron las doce personas (sí, doce) que alguna vez quiso. Todas muertas por su culpa, como no deja de recordarnos Ash una y otra vez, sin parar.

Esas historias de las muertes de sus seres queridos tal vez hubieran podido resultar emocionales si hubieran sido contadas de otra manera.

O si la protagonista no intentara con tanto empeño que sintamos lastima por ella.

O tal vez si fueran menos, después de la quinta muerte ya era como: aquí vamos otra vez.

O si algunas de las muertes no parecieran sacadas de un capitulo de Mil Maneras de Morir.

Ejemplo:

Muerte #2: Su mejor amiga, Grace, quien era alérgica al maní. Ash come M&M, luego usa el brillo labial de Grace. Grace usa el mismo brillo labial un rato después y muere de un shock anafiláctico. - En serio?

Muerte #3: Su abuelo, a quien Ash le pidió que la acompañara mientras esquiaba y por el esfuerzo murió de "agotamiento".

Muerte #4: Su primer novio, quien murió atropellado luego de que Ash le pidiera que fuera a su casa para que pudieran tener su primera vez.

Muerte #5: Su tía, a quien Ash convence de que tenga una cita a ciegas y resulto que el tipo era un asesino serial.

Muerte #6: Su segundo mejor amigo, quien muere por los golpes que recibió en una pelea en la que intentaba defender a Ash.

Muerte #7: Su abuela, quien muere a causa de la picadura de una abeja que estaba en las flores que Ash le envió.

Muerte #8: Su psicóloga, a quien Ash le pide una cita tarde en la noche, y muere al caerse por las escaleras de la estación del metro al intentar llegar a tiempo.

Y así sigue... y sigue... todas las muertes ocasionadas por su culpa -por supuesto-

Muerte #1: Su mamá.
Muerte #9: Su papá.
Muerte #10: Su hermano.
Muerte #11: Su cuñada.
Muerte #12: Y Sam, su novio con cuya muerte comienza la historia.

A pesar de todo eso, Ash no puede evitar enamorarse de Luke, asi que decide advertirlo y decirle que ella hace que la gente muera.



Pero Luke no cree que las muertes sean su culpa, y sólo le dice...




Peeero, claro que Ash tenía razón, y ella SÍ causa las muertes, asi que cuando deciden salir a celebrar el cumpleaños de Ash, sale un tipo armado de la nada e intenta robarlos, pero Ash entra en crisis empeorando todo, el hombre dispara y Ash se interpone en el camino entre Luke y la bala... y muere. En serio. Muere.

Pero, por supuesto, Ash escucha la voz de Luke y revive, y se da cuenta que morir hizo que perdiera la maldición que tenía, por lo que Luke y ella ahora están a salvo.
