As a freelance correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly and The Saturday Evening Post, Nora Waln covered the rise of Chinese Communism, the Pacific Theater in World War II, The Nuremberg Trials, the Korean War, and postwar Japan. She died in Spain in 1965 at age 70.

This is a book written by an American that became the "adopted" daughter of a wealthy house in China in the 1920's. She meets her husband in China also and lives there for years. A slow start but I found the book rather interesting. They lived on "Shameen" Island and I loved reading the discriptions and such after having spent 2 weeks there. The hard part is that the book wasn't finished properly. Then at the end of the book they added what was to be a second book - the parts that were found at a later date - which just confused me more. I would love to know when and why she left China (probably due to her husbands job) and what happened in the big meeting with her adoptive family on her way to Japan to work years later.… (más)
