A sequel to Walmsley's earlier "Brief Candles", "Brief Candles 2" covers more cricketers who played one or very few first-class matches, fleshing out the names of otherwise extremely obscure cricketers. While still a good read, sadly, this sequel doesn't live up to the first "Brief Candles", although it does include the amazing story of Alfred Green Price, who made his first-class cricket debut aged 59.

Cricket is not all about its champions and legends, for there are far more one match wonders populating cricket's long history than those who have been long lionised. Keith Walmsley sets out to rescue some of these forgotten one match wonders and restore them to their rightful place in history.

Featured is Emile McMaster, who went on a holiday to South Africa and came back a Test player (not that he knew that at the time). He was out first ball in his only innings. Fred Hyland, Dick Wooster and Michael Harbottle also get a look in, with Harbottle going on to be featured in the Dictionary of Biography for his military service.

There's some wonderful little snippets about players you've never heard of with the only drawback being the extensive pieces two living cricketers, which don't hold the same interest of McMaster and others long dead that feature in "Brief Candles". There's a sequel to this which I shall be tracking down.
