Sometimes the written word deserves to strictly be read from the pages of a book. Other times a narrator captures the words and suspense in a masterful way, as in the case of No Turning Back. I loved getting to know Livvy, an Opera singer, struggling with singing. While visiting San Quentin, danger and suspense come to life through the story and narration.

Pastor Lucas and Tobin also add to the story. I found this storyline and the narration worth reading. The book illustrated how a belief and love of Jesus Christ allows powerful changes to occur in people’s lives,

The narration of this book truly brings the story to life. So if you enjoy Christian suspense novels, check out this book for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Full of twists and turns, this book examines the idea of Jesus Christ being born, living, dying, and being resurrected today rather than the past. The author masterfully brought the plot and characters to life. The interactions Maggie has with different characters including a young man named Stephen pulled me into the story more.

I have to say I found it interesting to read and learn about the Jewish faith. Andy and Payton, two brothers, and the feelings and experiences they had captured my attention. Truly, this book presents the message of God and Jesus in a way that brought the story to life without being preachy. So check out this book for yourself.

This is a very unique story that has us follow Maggie on a journey that is familiar to many. The question is raised of what would happen if Jesus was alive and then killed in our modern world of today?

From the person who denies knowing Jarrett to his body missing we are able to follow along as this mystery unfolds. I had shivers thinking about what I would do if this happened today. Maggie is caught up in a battle where people don’t believe that she saw Jarrett even though he supposedly died. Just think about how you would explain to someone right now that this person everyone saw die, is really alive and you saw them? I think they would be finding you a nice quiet bed in a hospital where you’re placed for your safety and others.

I loved Stephen and how he teams up with Maggie to help keep her safe. People are after them and are desperate to stop them . Someone doesn’t want the truth about Jarrett coming out. It was exciting to meet different people in their journey and how they helped Maggie and Stephen. The author is a great storyteller and it is so close to the story in the Bible, yet I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I was hooked on following these two characters till the end.

The best part for me was how determined Maggie and Stephen were. When they see Jarrett again it is so special. He tells them how he loved then before they were born and His unconditional love for them. He tells them ,”If you approach your relationships with genuine love, you can forgive anything.” If only we could remember those words every time we face someone who hurts us. God wants us to walk in love and forgiveness.

The ending is an edge of your seat thriller as Maggie must face the enemy. It gives me chills as I think of what Maggie was facing. It’s a fight to save Maggie as she is escorted into court. At that moment she feels His presence. Can you imagine being told you are crazy because you believe in God? The scene before us at the end is good vs evil and the author displays it with much compassion and love for God. I would love to see this book made into a movie.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

What a roller coaster ride this story is. The thought of going into a prison to minister is not high on my list. I admire people who feel called to do this. It is important to share the gospel with everyone and hopefully the people incarcerated can find forgiveness.

I was intrigued by the setting of San Quentin as it is a famous prison. What a shame that such a place is overcrowded and understaffed. It was easy for me to sympathize with Livvy and all the things she is dealing with from her past. Panic attacks are scary and often leave you feeling withdrawn. The gift God has given her to sing is one she treasures, but it has been hard to go out in the public to share that gift. Someone has hurt her and she is trying so hard to overcome her fear. I was quite surprised that she decided to go on the trip with the church to the prison. Maybe God has a reason for her being there.

Lucas is a compassionate pastor and is happy to have Livvy join him and others on the trip to minister to men at the prison. The author does a good job of using faith throughout the story. There is definitely an attraction between Livvy and Lucas but I felt that Livvy was holding back a bit.

The story gears up when a riot breaks out while the church group is there. Tobin who is an inmate becomes a focal point of the story. He takes Livvy under his wing and tries to protect her from other prisoners. There is a high volume of intensity in the story and very dark moments that only God can help get them through. It wasn't easy for Livvy to trust Tobin but I don't think she had any alternatives.

I was very impressed with the author and her debut novel. It is hard to believe that this is her first book. She writes characters with flaws and slowly allows them to explore their faith. She takes people through forgiveness and shows how free they feel. The author takes a convicted man and uses him to protect others without thinking of the consequences. It is a great story that made me think how God can use anyone. Forgiveness is a good focus in the story and I loved how the author used an unstable environment to see how people can change.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
