Sophie McPhee loves her long hair but when it gets all tangled and messy she decides she's had enough. She heads to the salon where she cuts her hair short and donates her ponytail to be made into a wig. While the author does a good job of expressing Sophie's love and hate relationship with her hair, there is no explanation for why or how she decided to donate her hair. Even though the story is limited, the pastel watercolor illustrations and Sophie's facial expressions make it very attractive, especially for young girls. An author's note at the end includes includes information on three organizations that take hair donations and make wigs for kids. The author also claims that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a hair donation program. Not a necessary book for all collections but may be ideal for schools that have a hair donation program. Suggested grade level: Preschool-2nd grade.… (más)
