Summary:

This is an informational chapter book that describes all sorts of different kinds of families, communities, cultures, and diversity all over the word. It goes into detail about all sorts of people from all sorts of different countries from around the world and describes how their life and culture have an influence on families. It has a contents and a glossary and each chapter is about a different topic. It begins by talking about what families are and how they’re all different. It then describes family life among animals, humans, large families, families that live in different settings, and etc. It has a lot of insight on tons of information about different families and life around the world.

Comments (opinions/arguments):

This book is quite old and out dated, but a lot of the information presented about families around the world is still very accurate and prevalent today. I really like how organized and detailed this book is. It offers a lot of information on all sorts of families and incorporates real life pictures from all over the world. It’s wonderful that in such a short book, the author is able to cover so much information ranging from animal families, human families, home life, work life, community life, religious beliefs, cultural customs/celebrations, where and how people live and work and different customs and ways of life. I really think that through all of this information, the author’s main purpose is to shed light on the fact that no two families are alike. Some children may not be exposed to other customs and cultures other than their own and this book will open them up to a world of families and diversity. I really think this book will help children gain an understanding of all the different families and people in our world and how different certain cultures are. I think it will also help them to maintain a balance of open mindedness towards other people and cultures that may be different from them. It can also help to teach children about different places in the world and how those places work.
