This 1927 murder-mystery-thriller begins with the discovery 1000 years ago of a unique green diamond that then leads to the deaths of many who desire it. Cut to the present and wealthy retired manufacturer Ithamar Strake is murdered in his apartment in Oneida County, New York. The State Trooper heroes are Sergeant Dan Delaney and rookie Stephen Cameron. This thriller showed its age, and not very attractively.

After reading Van de Water's historical novels and history about Vermont in the the Revolutionary War in Vermont, I started gobbling up other things I could find that he had written.I bought this at a used book store. It describes the first year in his new home in Dummerston. I sort of identified with it, although 1937 was very different from 1971, when we moved to Vermont.

After reading Van de Water's four historical novels about the Revolutionary War, I moved to the history. This reads like a novel, but it's been so long, I need to read it again.

I think Wings of the Morning is the one that takes place in Southeastern Vermont, at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. If this is the one I'm thinking of (there are four in the series), mostly I remember him walking from Dummerston to Marlboro, and then back.
