Travis's Ben and Zack series follows the lives of a Quaker pastor's child, Ben, and his black friend, Zack, at the beginning of the Civil War. In The Redheaded Orphan Ben moves to Minnesota and Zack goes off to be a drummer in the Union army. The Union Army Black follows Zack's adventures as he sees first-hand the treatment of black soldiers and the horrors of war.

Tirzah is a junior historical fiction rendering of the Hebrew exodus from Egypt. There are some typos, which is slightly frustrating for me, and the quality of writing is not exceptional. I really enjoyed, however, reading about the Exodus from this viewpoint. In our modern Western culture it often seems that Christianity is practiced in a very nonchalant manner, so it is refreshing to read something that gives a reminder of why Christianity exists in the first place.
