I enjoyed this however I feel like this is going to end in some form of heartbreak. Kuroe is a friend in my head. I feel bad for Uta and her clueless brother. Also I feel that Kaoru is hiding something. This was a solid first volume but due to the subject matter I am not sure if I want to continue the series.
This volume pulls up the reins on last volume's cliffhanger and lets the characters soak in the ramifications rather than deal with them. Uta's crush on her sister-in-law is still in place, while Kaoru's marriage to her brother may be in trouble, and we tread water -- but, y'know, in a pleasing enough way -- through Christmas and New Year's.
As the main character tries to move on from her crush on her sister-in-law, the story moves on to reveal an intriguing secondary romance. And just when I thought the series was willing to settle into its melancholy and gentle relationship groove, there's a dramatic cliffhanger. Say what now?
I immediately submitted a request that my library purchase the next volume, and -- YAY! -- they agreed. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.
Uta has a crush on her brother's wife, made all the more complicated because she has moved in with the newlyweds following her parents' messy divorce. Amusing, heartbreaking, and heartwarming in turns, the story actually seems complete by the end of this first volume, but the series goes on for another six books. It's a fairly strong ensemble of characters, so I can see wanting to continue with it. And I will, though my library only has one more, alas.
