2 stars seemed too harsh...maybe a 2.5 /I don't know, I kept waiting for it to get better. I think I hoped for a love story. Sometimes books from guys' perspectives lack something for me...but I kept reading on- the escape from poverty/rough life was compelling to see how he faced each situation

Quirky and entertaining! I read it out loud to my husband while we were on a road trip and I had the time of my life with my impressions of the characters and their drawls.

Memoir about Tingle's formative years in urban city of Northeastern US. His life was one of deprivation and bad choices. Ultimately getting out of Lawrence MA and into the Marines allowed him to embrace all that life had to offer. He still faced the what ifs we all do and wondered about the different choices and chances he had.

I didnt enjoy this book as much as the authors first book but that may have been because his first book was a memoir based in my hometown. However, it was interesting enough to keep me reading and was fast paced with lots of interesting characters.
