This is a straight-up retelling of the Spider-Man story with additional plot elements that focus attention on the life of a student in school. The illustrations are surprisingly effective and, with early reservations, came away fairly impressed with this book.

Peppered throughout the text are highlighted words and sentences that convey extra meaning or points of discussion for early or struggling readers.

My biggest complaint about this book is the inclusion of a gun being used by the story's primary villain. In my view, this was a totally unnecessary element from the early comic book origin that could just as easily have been implied and not seen. I do not like the use of fire arms by anyone for any reason in story's for young readers.

The big idea here is at the heart of the Spider-Man mythos:
With great power comes great responsibility" and that is not lost in this story at all.… (más)
