Another historical fantasy by this author, though this time set in London. Having read it some years ago, I can't recall anything about it other than it apparently begins with a bloodbath.

This started off as a self published book that was taken up by mainstream publishers. Unfortunately, it reads like something that hasn't had proper editing. There were things that threw me from page 1 such as a character carrying a 'case' which turned out to be a box, when I'd pictured a briefcase or some such. Dense pieces of description that aren't required and infelicitous mixtures of tenses, and bits where you think he's talking about one character in a scene and it turns out to be the other. There are strong ideas and some powerful set pieces such as when the evil vicar tricks the previous incumbent out of the living in a flashback, but it all reads like a first draft that should have had a lot more work done on it.… (más)

I was a bit disappointed by this story, I remember that I thought Shadowmancer and Wormwood were amazing and this novel did not deliver on the same level. Of course I am older now so I may have just grown away from this style.

There was some really interesting parts to the story but there was an awful lot of wordy dialogue to get through between these highlights. I genuinely think the book would have been better had it been half the length and been a fast paced adventure.
