This was a book I discovered in a box I retrieved from the attic. My mom lived in Hawaii for a time and for whatever reason retained this book. It's mostly a glorified travel brochure, but the local history kept my serious interest. The photos and articles weren't about resorts but about livelihood in remote places. Hawaii is one of most isolated, human-inhabited archipelagoes in the world and on top of that many people live in bays and on landslide-prone mountains. Sometimes they don't have access to modern amenities. However, Hawaiians also have kept their traditions alive and can survive without the rest of the world. This book profiles several of these locations as well as the journey to get to them.… (más)
