- David Sylvian (born David Alan Batt, 23 February 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, composer and musician.
Sylvian's music career spans more than 40 years. He came to prominence in the late 1970s as the frontman of art pop band Japan. Since the group disbanded in 1982, Sylvian has pursued an eclectic solo career that has drawn on varied styles including jazz, art rock, and ambient music. He has collaborated widely with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robert Fripp, Holger Czukay, and Fennesz.
