The book reveals what an amazing talent Cobb was. It also seemed to fairly portray what a difficult person he was with many flaws. That said, I did not know that this book has generated so much controversy until after I read it, and I have not taken the time to read more and make an assessment of the controversy.

Finished this a while ago, and it took me a long time to read. If a book takes me a long time to read, let's face it, I'm not a fan. This book felt choppy and disjointed to me, it didn't give a clear timeline of the life and events of Ty Cobb. It was ok for what it was, but a lot of it felt subjective and quoted from a lot of secondhand and third hand sources, or didn't reveal a source at all, which made me question a lot also. This book is an absolute disgrace. Al Stump was a reprehensible scumbag who unfortunately did not live long enough to be held fully accountable for his brutal distortion of the facts surrounding Ty Cobb's life in this biography. Thanks to the good work of folks at SABR, Stump has been exposed, but unfortunately the book continues to have a wide circulation. Ty Cobb was in no way a saint, but this garbage heap of a biography is far worse than he ever was.

This book should not be in print any longer. Al Stump has been completely discredited, and this book has been shown to be a fabrication written by a despicable human being. Al Stump took items from Cobb's home, forged diaries and letters, and worst of all wrote this book full of lies. Historians that fact check Stumps work find perhaps all of it is false.

Look up any of he recent scholarship on the=is book, and the even more dishonest movie, and you will see the truth. Ty Cobb spoke out in favor of Jackie Robinson while other southgerners called JAckie the N-word or worse, he allowed a black batboy to stay in the team hotel even though it was segregated, and was a friend and benefactor of Shoeless Joe Jackson. He was a sad temperamental l man, but he was not the monster this garbage book says he was.… (más)
