I have been blessed to be the mom of two amazing boys, but there are times I wonder if I am doing it right. I have always been a girly girl by nature, so when I ended up with all boys to raise it was a bit of a shell shock, to say the least. Luckily, I have learned on the job over the years, and my parents grew as they did, but I wish I would've had a resource like Moms Raising Sons to Be Men when they were younger to help my navigation that much easier. Even being a mom to teenage boys, I am thankful that I have this resource now and can still apply many of the points to my parenting arsenal, even with my boys being older.

Moms Raising Sons to Be Men is full of practical applications and helpful Scripture references that led me to further study that goes beyond parenting. I listened to the audiobook first, but having the physical copy helped bring many of the points home and allowed me to take more notes. Rhonda has a good pace, the different sections are easy to recognize, and I never felt myself lost, even going back to particular sections more than one time.

One of the biggest parts that has continued to stick with me was letting my boys go, and trusting that God will take care of them. My boys are 17 and 16, so the thought of them leaving the nest is very real, very scary, and happening way too fast. The thought of them being out in this scary world alone is positively frightening but I've always had a strong faith for myself, so why wouldn't I have that same faith with my boys?

Listening to Rhonda’s words was like listening to a friend give advice, and discuss their faith and the Bible, and I could see this being a wonderful resource for a Christian mom group, as well as for personal study. I can't rave about Moms Raising Sons to Be Men enough and highly recommend for all of my fellow boy moms.

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.

One thing I loved about the audiobook was how calming Rhonda Stoppe's voice is! This book was perfect to listen to while driving to appointments, and brought up so many good points that got me really thinking about how I parent my boys, and adjustments I can make to help them better become men, while at said appointments. Rhonda has a good pace, the different sections are easy to recognize, and I never felt myself lost, even with having to start and stop several times.

I'll admit, I enjoy reading Christian romance. It's also nice to read real-life stories. This collection of real-life romances is inspiring. Included at the end of each chapter is a Ponder This section, as well as Ask Yourself.

To be honest, I found this book hard to read at times, since I have experience three failed marriages. It makes me feel as if there is something wrong with me, that a relationship with me is not worth fighting for. That makes my heart weep. But I hope and pray my children learn from my mistakes, and that God will grant them happy, life-long marriages of their own someday.

If you enjoy reading/hearing Godly, Christian romance stories, you will enjoy reading Real-Life Romance.

This book is full of treasured stories that encourage, bring a smile and give insight into relationships that made it through good times and bad times. I’m sure we each have our own story of how we met our mate. I know when I first met my husband we didn’t like each other at all. We seemed to clash every time we saw each other. What I really liked about this book was the transparency that the couples shared as they took us on their journey to find the right one. Each story is unique but has one thing in common. They each drew on their faith and strength as they pursued their relationships.

I loved how the book includes a section called “Ponder This” and “Ask Yourself.” These are great tools to use as you soak up each story. As I read each story I began to understand more of the blemishes I still had in my life. Did I really forgive when I said I did? Do I still have insecurity issues? The good news is that I am still a work in progress. This book just reinforces for me how thankful I am that I persevered and continue to be thankful for God’s grace and mercy.

One of the keys points of the book for me was to not have secrets from your mate. One of the stories touched on that and it really hit home. For years I guarded a secret that I didn’t realize was affecting our relationship. As the Bible says, “The truth will set you free,”is such a powerful passage that made me feel like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders. Even though the secret was something from my childhood, I was still fearful of what my husband would think. I am encouraged by this book and the stories that range from sadness to happiness. I loved each story and gathered wisdom from them. My hope is that when you pick up this book to read you “will be better prepared to not only survive life’s storms, but to thrive in times of trouble.”

I received a copy of this book from Lit Fuse. The review is my own opinion.Landing page:
