Almost a Great

I would've given this one 5 stars except for the plot fumble about three quarters of the way through, where someone felt the need for more action. Once you get past the awkward crash scenes and other unnecessary struggles to arrive at the Mars site, the rest is back on track for a good finish

Stereotypes all the way down.

The EU and Ares are racing to explore the rest of the solar system, in a story that has as many plot holes as a sieve. Still, the action is there and the story moves ahead so it is not all bad.

And all the characters are still photo models of extreme intelligence and physical prowess.

This is the third book in the series about 65 million old aliens (or rather alien remains) found in the solar system.

In the previous book we left our heroes stranded on Europa after a sociopath of a security officer on the EU vessel decided to blow everyone up, with some success.

This is not a good book. If you absolutely loved the previous book, you may like this one as well, but not because the book is good but because you are a good fit to the story. If you are not a good fit, then you are left with a book that is not very good.

The story is predicable (if you've read enough similar books) and the characters implausible. Yes, they are still super humans looking like super models, with super skills. Something like in the Starship Troopers movie, I would guess.

This book oscillates between an interesting vision of a world, and extremely juvenile dialogue. I am very close to giving it an even lower grade due to the cheesy, annoying and prepubescent exchanges between characters (who by the way are almost all young with movie star looks), but since I find that I still want to read the next book in the series I will leave it at three stars.

The story is that we find 65 million old, dead, creatures in the solar system that might be aliens intermixed with dinosaurs. Have fun with that.… (más)
