A little girl (and her dog) receive rhyming notes and live plants in the mail from a beloved and affectionate aunt. Each plant is different, and comes with a little tag that tells its name and a fact about it (e.g. "Fern: Fossils show that ferns have been around for millions of years"). The illustrations show time passing (a Jack-o-Lantern on the windowsill, e.g.) until the aunt's next visit. Each plant is unique, and endpapers show all ten, with their common name, scientific name, information about their native areas and how much and what kind of light they need.

As lovely as sunlight through a leaf.

The way I see this book it is a good excuse for a parent who is somewhat vague on the meaning of various terms and uses of computers to *upgrade* their understanding alongside of their child. Simple and easy to understand the application of this knowledge in daily life.
The illustrations by Teresa Martinez are to delightful, imaginative, and vividly colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
