Loved this book, loved reading stock car stats. Even created some spreadsheets on some of the stats to view them in a different format and try to bring the statistics up to date. (I did this in 2001.)

This has been a really fun book to have around especially during the Triple Crown Races. Everyone calls me now for info on everything from crossword puzzle clues to settling arguments on past winners. Anyone who loves horse racing will enjoy this book. Has everything form the breeders to the trainers and riders.

Here is a book that does exactly what it says on the tin... er, cover. A somewhat dry reference book densely packed with details but light on the sorts of images or insights that make for easier reading, this truly comprehensive history is useful for dipping into for interesting tidbits, for checking facts, and for those with a research-related interest in the Triple Crown races. Otherwise, you could use it to impress your friends come Derby day. Which is probably what I'm going to do. :)

This is an exhaustive and dense treatment of the classic races. It's definitely not a book to sit down and read, but to refer to as needed. That being said, there are marvelous stories of the people involved if you read through or even just flip to a random year. The only thing to make it an even better reference would be to include more photos. 'The Kentucky Derby...' is a beautiful addition to a racing fan's library and something that should make the author very proud.
