I got an ARC copy via Instafreebie.

I really enjoyed reading this book while I'm busy chomping down my sizeable TBR pile today.

The protagonist is a 12 year old that abides by a strict society where women must dress accordingly, be courted with propriety and magic is staunchly forbidden.

Bedridden for the past 3 weeks due to a sudden surge of magic flowing on her body that if discovered would guarantee a death sentence, the protagonist (her name isn't mentioned in the book), she gets an unexpected visit from her childhood sweetheart Jontan who gives her a bouquet of flowers.

Things turn out rather strange after he leaves...

While I feel like this prequel is more of a teaser that should have been placed as a prologue of a proper book, I really liked the author's writing style and after just 3 pages of text (the book is that short believe it or not), I'm already interested in reading the full-fledged book sometime.

Good job Emily!

Wow talk about a new take on shifters! Apparently in this book one becomes a shifter around 16 or 17 years of age by touching the clan stone. Then... Like the infamous sorting hat in Harry Potter... The stone chooses your designation. For example Lisettes family are all werehawks... She assumed that's what she'd become. My was she shocked when it turned out she was a werevulture. Even worse... The only other vulture clan was in NYC!! Why were there no other vulture clans? What happened to them all? What was their power? Her own family seemed fearful of her and she felt all alone. So when someone approached her about a rare clan she leapt at the chance to look into it. At the meeting she met a were vampire pumpkin, a weremoth and others.... I did mention this was NOT your normal shifter book right? …anyhow... This clan leader then claimed he had the ability to change people into the clan designations they wanted.... Uh huh... Sure... Ever heard about something being too good to be true? Yup, so had Lisette... If you want to know all that happens to her and her feisty BFF keegan then you must read this brilliant book. Filled with fesity, smart mouthed, intelligent heroines and smarmy, evil, bad persons.... It's a fun read. I cannot wait to read the next in this highly entertaining series! I give this review voluntarily after reading a complimentary copy of the book.… (más)

This short story is extremely short but managed to place me entirely with the three characters and their feelings. The scenario is interesting. I'm not reading the series and I'm satisfied with this as a stand-alone.

Christmas Times A Hissin!

A different look at the Santa mythology. Don't want to put spoilers in but Santa has turned badass when it comes to anything threatening his holiday. This is a cute short story and most will be entertained.
