Summary: Ichabod Crane, the new schoolmaster of Tarrytown, takes a fancy to a wealthy farmer's daughter named Katrina. Towns people tell Ichabod the tale of the headless horseman and Sleepy Hallow, while Brom continuously plays jokes on Ichabod and frightening him. The one thing that seperates Ichabod and his love is Sleepy Hallow. The stories do not keep him from going to see Katrina and night as Ichabod was going through Sleepy Hallow he encounters the legend or did he? The only thing ever found of Ichabod was his hatand a broken jackalantern.

Personal Reaction:
I have always loved the Legend of Sleepy Hallow, it is a fun book to read, but by putting it in comic form it makes the reading more interesting and easier to follow for children. I really liked this one.

Teaching Extensions:
1) A lesson could be made from this book explaining what a mystery is.
2) A lesson could be derived showing the difference in legends and myths.
3) This book could be used to show that pranks and jokes are not always funny but can be harmful and dangerous.

The graphic novel uses wonderful illustrations to depict the legend with short conversation throughout to engage readers. The comic format gives a nice twist to the age old story.
