Danita Smith is the founder of Red and Black Ink, LLC, created to positively impact the education of children. Smith earned both a BS and MBA in Business Administration from Florida A&M University and has spent years studying academic standards and ways to effectively implement educational techniques with children.

Her interest in development has also manifested itself in her professional career as she has worked for nearly twenty years in corporate America, with an emphasis on training and development. Danita Smith resides in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

There is a clear need for parents to find time in their day to work on their child's educational development and to make sure their child is progressing properly through school. This book lists skills and activities by grade level which can be used by parents to help avoid "social promotion" and to assess their child's development of fundamental skills. It was written for parents as a guide and includes simple tips and techniques to address these issues.

The Five Key Principles that are presented are:
- Parental Involvement
- Repetition and Practice
- Educational Exposure at Home
- Encouraged Articulation
- Positive Reinforcement

I wrote this book out of a desire to educate my son and out of a need to understand educational expectations as we moved to different school districts throughout his elementary school years. Ten Things Your Child Should Know about Reading, Writing, and Math (Pre-K - 5th Grade) presents very clear guidelines and expectations for each grade level along with tips and exercises for improving skills.
