Beautifully written novel centered around jazz- filled jam sessions in a 1950s boarding house in Harlem. Very sophisticated, enjoyable work.

Two young women's lives emerge at Honeybee's boarding house. You have the "ugly" girl with the pretty voice and the "pretty" but sheltered girl who wants to be a singer as well. On Friday nights, Honeybee's home turns into a jam session for Harlem musicians.

This book is along the style of McFadden's Sugar and J.D. Mason for it's eloquence. This book is an undiscovered gem because of the care the author takes in crafting a wonderful story. It's not a messy, drama- filled story but I like it because Ms. Smith is such a great writer. She doesn't just throw words on the page.… (más)
