Was browsing the Australiana section at the Lifeline bookfest and saw this. It's old, as she was here before I was born even, but I'm intrigued to read another American's perspective on life in Oz. Looks like it's either humour, or she didn't enjoy it, but we'll see.

I read this book, and couldn't help but wonder what the author was thinking, or smoking. Granted a) this was written 25+ years ago b) everyone sees something different in a place they visit and c) I don't care much for Sydney either, but I cannot fathom someone having such an awful time here. Part of me knows her negative attitude and superiority complex didn't endear her to anyone, but part of me wonders whether Australia really could have been so different.
Apart from not agreeing with the author, the book came off as one long whine. Wonder why anyone published it. To each his own, I suppose.… (más)
