It's a shame that no one else has read this book. It truly is amazing and I would recommend it highly to Civil War buffs especially and to readers who enjoy the unique in history. Available from Amazo both as a hardback and a Kindle edition.

I may have read this book out of sequence but i opted to do this because of the timing! A great Thanksgiving read that takes you for a ride back in time....a simpler time perhaps, but one filled with fear and dread as the holidays approach during WW2.

This novel revolves around the Coleman family in PA - two sons home on furlough, a teenager daughter and anxious but loving parents. Short, full of feeling, and from this one book alone i can easily imagine it becoming a tv mini-series.

A great heart-warmer....… (más)

“Unfinished Business is the story of Roseanne Demarco. Roseanne gets married to Joey Demarco just before he is sent to basic training before World War II. While Joey is away Roseanne meets Frank Donaldson. She has a brief but unforgettable affair before Frank has to go to the war. Joey returns from basic training and is stationed in Pittsburg, where he spends the entirety of the war. Roseanne stays with Joey and has 3 kids, but she is haunted by what might have been. 9 years later Joey must go off to war again, this time the Korean war. Roseanne takes a job at a department store while Joey is gone and the kids are away for the summer. Frank Donaldson shows up at her candy counter and shortly after meeting again they resume the affair.
This book is mostly about how Roseanne deals with the affair. She feels guilt, but also dreams of a different life. There is not a lot of action in this book. It mostly seems to be just an internal dialogue of all of Roseanne's thoughts and concerns and does not do much to hold attention of the reader. It seems very long at almost 200 pages.”

This, the second book in the Coleman family series, was just as good as the first book, The First Christmas of the War. It continues the story of the Coleman family, a family coming to grips with life during World War II. The oldest two sons of Gerald and Irene Coleman have been in Arizona training in the Army Air Forces. They are coming home for the last family Thanksgiving before they will go off to war. Irene would like everything to be perfect for this last family holiday. Things do not, of course, go the way she had hoped. There is drama with most of the Coleman kids. This drama helps you get to know the Coleman family and makes you care about everything they are going through. Alan Simon does a remarkable job of helping the reader travel back in time. You feel like you are in the 1940's. The war and all of its ramifications are bearing down and affecting all aspects of life. Gerald and Irene are trying hold everything together and you feel for them because so much is not within their control. I look forward to the next book in this great series.… (más)
