St. Margaret’s Academy may look like any other school set in the English countryside, but it isn’t. St. Margaret’s is for special students “in the system” who have shown aptitude and exceptionalism. Education spiced with special training designed to serve Queen and Country is the order of the day.

Jake Highfield has gone from delinquent to secret agent in the three years he’s been at St. Margaret’s. Once on the road to life in prison, at best, Jake is now special agent Chaos. When Jake’s latest mission goes awry it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Operatives at St. Margaret’s are disappearing and Jake was meant to be the next. Now Jake’s running for his life with some assistance from Angel, the techno-geek who entered St. Margaret’s the same time he did.

I confess to reading very little YA and wasn’t sure what to expect from CHAOS UNLEASHED. Boy was I pleasantly surprised; non-stop action, double crosses, double agents, and dynamic characters, all the essential elements that make action books appealing to adults is there.
Mr. Sillifant kept me on edge, guessing, and cheering wildly for Jake right up to the very last page. I had a large time and look forward to more Jake, Angel, and St. Margaret’s in the near future.
CHAOS UNLEASHED is a book long adrenaline ride that should easily hold any tween (and many adult) readers attention and leave them asking for more Jake and Angel.

This was an enjoyable read that kept the pace going throughout the novel. If you like the Alex Rider series (which I do as an adult) then this will be a good book for you. I found it to be an easy read but with a few good twists and turns along the way that I think will engage a younger reader. The only downside of the novel for me was its length; I did feel it could be slightly shorter. I’m not talking by much, but there is only so much espionage and destruction that can be packed into a book.

In the main, the characters can be visualised and the plot rolls along quite nicely. I’d certainly be happy to read others, making an assumption that this will be part of a series. There’s enough information about plot available on the author’s website and also on Amazon but suffice to say it is typical of the genre but somehow brought into a world more real than that of Alex Rider.
